WINDHOEK
“In Hidipo we trust”, so read the messages on placards waved by youths from the new political party, the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) whose youth league (RDP Youth) held their first major meeting in the Khomas Region over the weekend.
Members of the youth league converged on the United Nations Plaza over the weekend to await an address by RDP interim president Hidipo Hamutenya. And when he did address them, Hamutenya said his party would correct the wrongs of the Swapo Government of the last 18 years, in less than a year, provided they become the ruling party.
The close to 500 young people were chanting and singing makeshift songs in praise of their party president mostly in Oshiwambo. Some of the songs went: “Uudemokoli oweya, Uudemokoli oweya, weetwa KuHidipo” which loosely translated says: “democracy has arrived, brought by Hidipo”.
Some young women could be seen and heard ululating as the youth continued to chant and heap praise on the establishment of the RDP. The event was attended by some senior members of the RDP, including Michaela H??????’??
