WINDHOEK – The dust refuses to settle for the evicted family of seven that has since March been living in a tent across their family home at the Single Quarters.
In a new twist, the family forcefully removed from Erf 4956 in Genesis Street, Single Quarters that was questionably sold this week learnt they will again be left without a roof over their heads as the owner of the tent in which they have been living for nine months allegedly wants his tent back.
“We don’t even know what to do. We have a pending civil case at the High Court because the house that we lost is now in the thief’s name. If we move back we can be arrested. I heard for the first time on Sunday that the tent in which we have been living was borrowed and that the owner wants it back,” a concerned Emmanuel Ngunovandu said yesterday.
Although, Ngunovandu has not met the owner of the tent, he said a message was sent to him that the owner will soon take back the tent. It was previously reported the tent was a temporary effort by the Katutura Central Constituency office to assist the family while efforts to gain back the house continues.
Councillor of Katutura Central Constituency, Ambrosius Kandjii, confirmed the tent in which the family lives was borrowed and its owner wants it back.
“We are negotiating and we will see how far we can go. We are looking for strategies to help,” said Kandjii who said he would not divulge further information on the matter to the media.
New Era could not get hold of the owner of the tent yesterday afternoon as his phone rang unanswered.
The family lost their house when the owner, late Rudolf Ndukireepo (older brother to Ngunovandu) who died last February was allegedly given excessive alcohol to consume and when he was drunk he was orced to sign papers that led to he and his family losing their house six months later.
The late Rudolf said on numerous occasions before his death he was under the impression he was renting out one room to the culprit for business purposes.
