Harry’s world title fight a sham

Home Editorial Harry’s world title fight a sham

Allow me to get back to Harry’s supposed world title fight that was recently announced.

I was surprised and consider it with complete disgust, because there is absolutely no way that Harry would ever qualify to fight for a world title or even a regional or international title, as there are millions of deserving boxers around the world, who are highly-rated and waiting for this opportunity.

Firstly, Harry has not fought for the last 10 years, I am not counting the bogus fights he had because they were not sanctioned but friendlies. He is not rated by any credible boxing organisation, meaning that he does not qualify to fight for any title, so when I heard he is fighting for a world title I was puzzled. But not for long.

Harry has taken what we call an embarrassing shortcut in boxing that will forever make Namibian boxing the laughing stock to the world of boxing. He is fighting for a world title but under a boxing organisation that has absolutely no recognition and credibility in the world, called the World Boxing Union (WBU).

Bogus boxing organisations like the WBU and WBF will allow any nobody to fight for any of their titles, because they are only interested in the sanction fees that the promoter has to pay them, so for them it’s a business.

Their titles are not recognised anywhere in the world and anybody mentioning their name will become a laughing stock in the respectable world of boxing. Their titles are therefore worthless. No TV or promoter around the world is ever interested in those titles because they know its worthless and a complete waste of money.

Their title holders are not recognised by the top 5 organisations, because they have no standards and credibility. The WBF offices are, for instance, based in South Africa, but no South African has ever fought for any of their titles, because they know it’s a complete waste of time.

Harry used to be a world class fighter, made Namibia proud and he must therefore retire honourably and not embarrass the rest of the boxing world, just because he needs money.

It is absolutely wrong and those cheering him on, including the Namibian Boxing Control Board, should look themselves in the mirror. Harry worked hard to build a great boxing legacy, and he is about to destroy that legacy forever.
