On the weekend of 22 and 23 June, the Windhoek Bowling Club (WBC) held its annual club singles competition here.

After a full weekend of tight games, the winner of the men’s division was Karl Hartmann, with Gert Koekemoer as runner-up.

In the women’s division, Truda Meaden emerged as the winner, with Val Gallagher as runner-up.

The winners will participate in the Namibia Bowling Association’s Champion of Champions competition to be held on 31 August and 1 September.

They will compete against the male and female champions from other Windhoek, Tsumeb and coastal bowling clubs.

WBC is the oldest bowling club in the country.

Its well-kept greens have been their home at Parliament Gardens since 1938.

Over the years, membership has grown to a diverse and vibrant group, passionate about bowling and growing the sport in Namibia.

Bowls is a dynamic and exciting sport – and contrary to prevailing perceptions, it can be enjoyed by young and old alike from all walks of life.

Some of Namibia’s top bowls players are young, having competed not only locally but regionally and internationally.

The club further welcomes new members, and would relish introducing Namibians from all backgrounds and ages to the game.
