Three San women (from left) Justine Kaimbi, Lea Gideon and Maria Britz were part of a group of 12 women that met with Ombudsman Adv. John Walters yesterday to discuss various issues which included general harassment, bad treatment at the hands of farmers and the behaviour of medical personnel at clinics in the rural areas they reside. They said language barriers at many schools are one of the main reasons for their children’s slow progress in life, as most staff at schools and government facilities do not speak or understand their language. The ombudsman promised to investigate their grievances and take them up with the relevant ministries in due course. The women came from as far as M’kata, Tsintsabis, Drimiopsis and Omega 1 and were accompanied by members of the Women’s Leadership Centre.
