Heavy rain damages graves in Windhoek

Heavy rain damages graves in Windhoek

Chevla Wells

The City of Windhoek (CoW) has announced that heavy rains between 17 and 21 March have damaged graves at the Gammams Cemetery, and worsened road conditions across the city.

“We encourage families to visit the cemetery to assess any potential damage and arrange for necessary repairs,” the CoW the statement read.
It said those in need of assistance can contact the Funerals and Cremations Section.

The CoW also acknowledged an increase in potholes due to ongoing rains, affecting road safety for motorists and pedestrians.

“Our teams are actively monitoring affected roads, and conducting temporary repairs to improve drivability,” the entity stated.
However, permanent repairs using bitumen will only take place after the rainy season to ensure long-term restoration.

Motorists have been advised to drive cautiously, reduce speed and remain vigilant, especially on roads prone to water damage.

“Your patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated as we strive to maintain safe and accessible road conditions,” the CoW statement said. -Nampa
