Boxers partaking in this weekend’s ‘Together as one Part 6’ Boxing Bonanza at Helao Nafidi in the Ohangwena region, have promised to deliver scintillating fights.
The event will coincide with the jubilant spirit of the country’s upcoming 32nd independence celebrations.
As has become tradition, the MTC Nestor ‘Sunshine’ Boxing Academy will again stage its yearly independence boxing bonanza, which pays homage to Namibia’s past and present heroes.
This year, the event will be headlined by the fast and furious Philipus ‘Energy’ Nghitumbwa, who will defend his WBO Global super bantamweight title against Tanzania’s Said Chino at the Helao Nafidi Community Hall on Saturday.
The lanky stylish Paulinus ‘John John’ Ndjolonimus will also be in action, defending his prized WBO Africa super bantamweight belt against DRC’s Erick Tshimanga.
There will be plenty of action as the hard-hitting Charles Shinima takes on South Africa’s Mziwoxolo Ndwayana for the WBO Africa welterweight title over 10 rounds, in what is expected to be a crackerjack affair between the two pugilists.
It will be an action-packed evening at the town’s community hall as upcoming but highly-promising fighters such as Frederick Nghutenanye, Reinhold Matheus, Nestor Thomas, Onesmus Nekundi, Emmanuel Mungadjela, Martin Mukungu, Sebastianus Nathanael and Paulus Amavila, among many others, will all be slugging it out against their opponents.
At yesterday’s face-off presser held in the capital, it was evident from the hype and atmosphere that all participating boxers have prepared well, and are ready to rumble it out for top honours and bragging rights.
Promoter Nestor Tobias yesterday said all is set and ready for the much-anticipated boxing bonanza, adding that the fundamental objective of the event is to pay tribute and honour the country’s past and present heroes with awe-inspiring boxing festivities.
With Covid-19 regulations now relaxed and the number of spectators increased from 500 to 1 000, Tobias called on local fans, especially those in the northern parts of the country, to come in big numbers and cheer on the local fighters while also celebrating the country’s independence in style.
