Helao Nafidi is expected to see improved access to healthcare services following plans to establish a private hospital, Helao Naifidi Private Hospital.

The mayor of the town, Darius Shaalukeni, revealed that the construction is anticipated to begin in June 2026.

Shaalukeni said the proposed hospital is intended to support existing public health facilities and reduce pressure on Engela district hospital, which remains the only hospital serving Helao Nafidi and often operates beyond its capacity.

“The private hospital will play an important role in easing congestion in Engela district and improving healthcare services for our residents,” he said.

The facility will be developed following a model like the Ongwediva Medi-Park, offering modern medical services to residents of Helao Nafidi and surrounding communities.

Shaalukeni confirmed that land for the project has already been secured, and that the hospital will be built at Omafo, behind the Helao Nafidi business expo site.

The mayor added that the development is expected to stimulate local economic growth through employment creation during both the construction and operational phases.

He said priority for non-specialised positions, such as cleaners, drivers and general workers, will be given to residents of Helao Nafidi.

Meanwhile, Ohangwena governor Kadiva Hamutumwa recently visited Helao Nafidi as part of her familiarisation tour of the region.

During her visit, she welcomed the planned development and emphasised the importance of private sector investment in strengthening healthcare services and improving access to quality medical care for communities in the Ohangwena region.
