Heritage to sprout at /Ae //Gams Arts & Cultural Festival

The City of Windhoek is gearing up for the /Ae //Gams Arts & Cultural Festival, scheduled for 25 and 26 April. To launch the festivities, a pre-festival celebration took place on Saturday at the Paaltjies Brakwater Recreational Area, attracting residents for a day of enjoyment, culture, and community spirit.

The event showcased a blend of traditional games and culinary contests. Attendees had the opportunity to revisit nostalgic memories with numerous classic games such as Amagoes, Blikkies, the Game of Throws, and Volmaak, appealing to patrons of all ages.

The games fostered a sense of nostalgia and friendly rivalry, supporting the festival’s theme of honouring Namibian culture and tradition.

In addition, a Vetkoek and Potjiekos Cook-off competition took place, featuring a showdown between local chefs and amateur cooks striving to whip-up the most delectable dishes. The competition was intense, with Windhoekers demonstrating their culinary prowess as the enticing aroma of sizzling potjiekos and freshly made vetkoek wafted through the air.
