WINDHOEK – The Minister of Higher Education, Training and Innovation, Dr Ithah Kandjii-Murangi says higher education needs transformation through transparency.
Kandjii-Murangi emphasised on key areas such as establishing effective communication between the ministry and the institutions of higher learning, innovation that targets employment creation, enhancement and expansion of vocational education training.
She made the remarks recently when she met the heads and senior officials from the University of Namibia (Unam), Polytechnic of Namibia (PoN), National Council for Higher Education, Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA) and the National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST).
Commitment and accountability will culminate into the transformation of higher education as well as expedite economic prosperity as stated by President Dr Hage Geingob.
“Higher education, vocational education and training as well innovation are strategic for national development, and in particular for the attainment of our national development aspirations as spelled out in Vision 2030 and NDP4,” stressed the higher education minister.
“The above-mentioned sector should provide skilled professionals and technical human resources for our country. Although a critical mass of human resources is needed, it is critical that we align our human resources output to our national plans and the needs of our economic sectors. Therefore, let us not train for the streets,” stated Kandjii-Murangi.
