Hitman ready to conquer the world again – Tobias

Home Featured Hitman ready to conquer the world again – Tobias

WINDHOEK – Namibia’s internationally acclaimed boxing promoter, Nestor ‘Sunshine’ Tobias, has expressed much satisfaction with Paulus ‘The Hitman’ Moses’ level of fitness, saying the former world champion is ready to deliver a blistery performance when action unfolds on 4 October at the Independence Arena in Katutura.

Moses is set to defend his World Boxing Organisation (WBO) international lightweight title against an equally dangerous Brazilian opponent Josenilson Dos Santos in the main bout of ‘The Final Punch To The World Title’ Boxing Bonanza, and Tobias is confident Moses will retain his belt in the most astonishing style.

“The last time I saw Hitman so sharp and fit was in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. His movement, speed and power have improved a great deal and seeing him in that shape reminds me of the Hitman that won the world title in Japan a few years ago,” said Tobias.

A win for Moses is very imperative, as it will possibly pave the way to a world title fight.

Current champion Terence Crawford will defend his title for the last time in November against current number 1 Reymundo Beltran, after which he plans to move to a higher weight class.

This means the title will be vacant come November and that scenario puts Moses in a great position to challenge for that title.

“He started boxing in 2 000 and was one of my first recruits when I launched the MTC Sunshine Boxing Academy. He could not throw a jab, straight punch, uppercut, left hook or move like Muhammad Ali but I saw great potential and talent in him and that is why I continued investing in his development just like I did with other boxers.”

The Hitman has ever since become one of the world’s finest boxers with different titles to his name.

In 2001/2 he became the Namibian national champion and represented Namibia internationally. He then turned pro in 2002 and achieved a lot by winning the WBA Pan African lightweight title, the WBA international title, the WBA world title and is now the incumbent WBO international champion rated number two  in the world and considered a class fighter.

He was undefeated before he lost his world title to Miguel Acosta of Venezuela in 2010. That made him undefeated for a straight 10 years and that’s a record of note so far in local boxing.

“I have no doubt our hard work will finally pay off. The Hitman looks extremely dangerous, he is fast, fit and importantly much more focused. He has a tremendous hunger for success and as things are going now, the sky is the limit,” said Tobias.
