The Naris Turf Club, in collaboration with Deep Sea, put aside N$50 000 to host a horse racing fun day at Rehoboth tomorrow.
One of the competition organisers, Eamon Freygang, told New Era Sports that the fun day is aimed at giving incentives to horse riders, better known as jockeys.
The eight-plate event is not on the Namibia Horse Racing Association racing calendar but has attracted top horses from various racing clubs countrywide.
“The jockeys work hard for this sport, and our club thought of giving them something for Christmas. We recognise their work, and this is their competition,” Freygang said.
According to Freygang, most prizes won on the fun day will be given to the jockeys, and special meals will be prepared for them at the event.
The maiden category will see horses like Global Forest, Queen Britannia, Sounds of Hooves, and Twice Lucky competing.
Jazzagal, Black Market, Lilly of Orange, Maison Merci, Mboma, That’s a Fact and Stoute Man will battle in the graduation category.
Among others, three Division horses with the names Forged in Flame, Fort Love, and Sitting Bull will contest, while Able Surprise La Luvia, Mr. F, and Unbroken Promises will battle against each other in the A-Division sprint.
“The main race will be 1800 metres, and various seasonal horses, including Starlile from Okahandja Racing, will land in Rehoboth to have fun,” Freygang highlighted.
The organisers added that there will be a football game for old crocks teams before racing events at 10h30.
“Jumping castles for kids will also be there, and the entry fee will be N$50 for adults and N$20 for kids,” said the organisers.
The racing will start at 12h00. – zngaruka@yahoo.com
