Last Saturday saw many exciting action at the CTC and Sports Klub Windhoek (SKW) tennis courts in the capital, which saw SKW beating CTC by 8-7 on match points and 70-62 on game points in the men’s first division.
In the men’s second division action, CTC-A prevailed over stable mates CTC-B by 14-6 match points and 53-35 game points, while in the women’s first division CTC-A thrashed UNAM and top ranked SKW defeated CTC-B.
In the ladies second division the DTS ladies defeated the inexperienced NUST students team. The highlight of the weekend’s competition was the first league encounter between SKW and CTC-A. CTC-A’s Minichel Alemu continued his winning streak against Davis Cup player Deon Van Dyk beating him 7/6 4/6 7/6 in a tight match.
The last singles went in favour of hosts SKW, with Riaan De Witt defeating Nqobilizwe Moyo in a tight three setter 6/4 0/6 6/2.
In the following doubles matches superior match experience weighed in favour of Kallie Heese and partner Nqobilizwe Moyo who prevailed against Kondonate Chriwa and Katu Jacobs 2/6 6/4 10/8 in the champions’ tie break.
However, the SKW team won the last doubles when Van Dyk/De Witt defeated Alemu and Van Wyk 7/6 6/2. In the men’s second division, Jurgens Twymann beat CTC-A’s Junior Risto Shikongo 6/4 6/4 while Shikongo’s older brother Elias defeated CTC-B’s Andrei Tirtirau 6/1 6/3.
