Namibian fashion soared to new heights recently as local designer Melisa Poulton, founder and creative director of House of Poulton, became the first Namibian to present her collection at Paris Fashion Week.
Her participation was made possible by the support of O&L Leisure, which sponsored her travel and worked with her to showcase Namibia’s creative and cultural identity on an international stage.
The company’s contribution also included curated gift bags designed to introduce the global fashion community to Namibia’s unique beauty and hospitality.
Poulton showcased her latest collection, ‘La Dolce Vita’, a tribute to Namibian luxury expressed through a citrus-inspired palette and detailed, handmade beaded fabrics. Each piece was inspired by the country’s expansive landscapes, from desert hues to ocean blues, reflecting the same natural beauty found at O&L Leisure’s lodges and resorts across Namibia.
“La Dolce Vita is my personal love letter to beauty, joy and softness. It serves as a reminder that strength can be elegant, and resilience can hold poetry. It’s where my heritage meets my dreams, with each piece representing a fragment of my heart expressed through couture. It’s also dedicated to my late father, Herald Poulton, one of the founders of House of Poulton,” Poulton said.
Poulton’s journey to Paris marks both a personal and national achievement, highlighting Namibia’s creative talent on one of the world’s most esteemed fashion stages.
According to Maryke van Lill, marketing general manager at O&L Leisure, supporting Poulton’s journey aligns with the company’s ongoing efforts to promote ‘Namibia Through Our Eyes’, a campaign that highlights authentic Namibian stories, talent and experiences.
“Supporting Poulton’s historic debut at Paris Fashion Week was about showcasing the extraordinary creativity thriving in Namibia. Her designs reflect the natural beauty and cultural richness we share with guests every day at our properties. She truly embodies the spirit of Namibia,” van Lill said.
This partnership between O&L Leisure and House of Poulton reinforces Brand Namibia’s mission to celebrate and elevate the nation’s culture, craftsmanship and tourism.
It serves as a strong reminder that Namibia’s stories, expressed through fabric, artistry and hospitality, deserve a place on the world stage.
