OSHAKATI – A 46-year-old man was trampled to death by an elephant in the Omusati region on Monday. The Omusati police’s community policing sub-division’s inspector Anna Kunga said the incident occurred around 13h00 at the Kambangula cattle post area in the Tsandi constituency.
“It’s alleged that a bull elephant trampled the deceased, who was a professional hunter, to death as he was hunting an elephant bull that had been declared problematic,” she said.
She added that the deceased, identified as Gert Andreas Jacobs van der Walt, was guided by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism.
Van der Walt’s body was transported to the Okahao police Mortuary for a post-mortem.
