WINDHOEK – The man who allegedly went on a shooting spree last week Friday killing one person and injuring six seemingly had the incident planned. Four cattle were also shot dead by the suspect.
On Friday he reportedly wrote on his Facebook page: “Taa embwa idiyashe ne vakwe ndati toyashifa embwa dopushinda nde otowelele aike,” (I will shoot these dogs, I said you will make me shoot the neighbours dogs but you are just making noise).
“I am angry for you bra we grown up together, we were together in December laughing on our childhood stories about our days when we were looking after cattle, but now I am asking the government to punish u severely as you deserve. May your soul lot in jail, (sic),” one of his friends replied.
The man’s identity cannot be revealed until he appears in court. Yesterday Inspector Stephan Nuuyi of the Namibian Police Public Relations Division said the man was still in hospital and will appear in court once he recovers.
Nuuyi said he was unaware of the Facebook page.
The 31-year-old suspect allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl at Onamhindi village in Omusati Region on Friday at about 14h00, after which he went on the rampage with a gun in hand.
The man called the girl into his room, grabbed her, pulled her down and raped her. The incident was not immediately reported to the police.
At about 20:00 the same day he went to Omutwewondjaba location in Omutundu village where he met his ex-girlfriend who was on her way home from a cuca shop. He shot and wounded her before he proceeded to fire a shot into a shebeen.
The injured people were rushed to Oshikuku Roman Catholic Hospital. The suspect was found heading for the border but he fled from the police and was shot in the right arm and left leg before he was arrested.
He was taken to the Oshakati State Hospital and is expected to appear in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court as soon as he is discharged from hospital.
