Wilhelmina Iimene (23) lives her life through fashion designing and writing fiction novels.

No stranger to New Era pages, Iimene, who is a third-year bachelor of English and Linguistics student at the Namibia University of Science and Technology, has so far published one newspaper article when she was 17 years old, and three books.

Her first fiction novel is titled ‘Not All Secrets Keep People Together’. The book was well received by the public and sales went well for a first-time author.

She tells VIBEZ! she has been passionate about writing for most of her life, and it has been a long-term dream to have a published book.

“Writing is liberating and therapeutic,” emphasised Iimene.

She published another fictional novel titled ‘The Desire: Sparks the romance’, and one poetry anthology titled ‘Poetry From Within’ in 2018.

The following year, she authored ‘Mvula’, which is a short story aiming to educate young girls about decision making.

“I’m a very curious person; always keen about writing and gaining new skills, especially with my hands.”

In the fashion world, the young student found herself on the top-five list of the first-ever MTC Windhoek Fashion Week ‘Fashion Pitch Night’ that took place in December 2020.

Iimen’s crochet clothing scooped her the second prize and she was awarded gifts that has so far helped her business grow.

These awards comprise of business registration, photo shoots and legal services.

Her brand ‘Kala Crochet’ was founded in 2019 when out of curiosity, she started crocheting just to pass time.

She made a few clothing tops for herself and then friends started requesting for some, which is how her business started.

‘Kala Crochet’ is in high demand. Her custom orders and ready-to-wear items are sold online and couriered countrywide.
