Windhoek
Tension is mounting as the much-anticipated Bank Windhoek Fistball League play-offs get underway in earnest at the DTS sports grounds in Windhoek this weekend, with the first match starting at 08h00 sharp.
SKW 1 will be up against old foes Cohen (CFC) 2 in the first semi-final of the national A league. Imawida, the reigning champions, are definite favourites to come out unscathed against their noisy neigbours since their opponents only managed to win three sets the entire season against the fired-up Germans.
Cohen must surely be in top form if they are to get something out of the clash of the titans. The team occupied top spot after the 4th round. However, SKW 1, with all their experience at their disposal, saw off their opponents last year in fine fashion in the final.
This year CFC 1 would certainly not want to be on the losing end again and want to end their 21-year title drought. The final will be played at 16h15.
The outcome in the national B league is likely to be more interesting with 4th placed DTS confronting 5th placed CFC 4 in the opening match, with the winner to face the loser of the semi-final that sees the winner come up against costal outfit and record holder CFC 3.
SFC put in some brilliant performances this season with the pair of Nikolai Hof and Christian Knobloch in great form. Imawida look set to qualify for the final. It will be extremely difficult for CFC 3 this time around as they face a much younger and agile team.
In the final, SKW 1 are ready for its yet to be decided opponents and not only do Imawida have a strong attack in the shape of the father and son combination of the Baas siblings, but the Germans also boast a solid defence.
However, Imawida need to pull out all stops if they are to seal the deal against their opponents in the final. .
