Blockbuster matches lined up for weekend …as Stars take on Chula Chula

Football enthusiasts are in for another treat this coming weekend as the Namibia Premier Football League (NPFL) takes centre stage with a number of thrilling fixtures scheduled at various venues across the country.

Action in the top-flight Namibian league kicks off tomorrow with defending champions African Stars hosting the newly promoted, northern-based team Eshoke Chula Chula at the Hage Geingob Stadium in the capital.

At the same time, Orlando Pirates, currently in the 11th position on the league standings, will take on Otjiwarongo-based team Mighty Gunners at the SKW Stadium in the capital. Gunners are currently positioned 10th on the standings.

At Unam Stadium, Unam, currently in the eighth position on the log standings, will face off against high-flying FC Ongos, who are placed second, just three points behind log leaders Khomas Nampol.

Meanwhile, at Mokati Stadium in Otjiwarongo, Life Fighters will aim to bounce back from their previous defeat when they face Gobabis-based team Young African in another exciting fixture set for Saturday. Salomo Hei, the executive director of African Stars, expressed his excitement about the upcoming match earlier this week. He urged fans to purchase their tickets in advance to avoid long queues, as this match against Chula Chula is classified as a category three (3) match by the Confederation of African Football (Caf) criteria. It includes pre-match meetings, press conferences and match
assessments. He encouraged fans to buy tickets through the Kudu key app and African Stars’ social platforms.

“African Stars are licensed by the Confederation of African Football (Caf). When we competed in the, we are going to classify this game on Saturday as a category three (3) match, aiming to meet specific criteria. One of them includes having pre-match meetings, press conferences, and the match being assessed. We are providing them with an opportunity to showcase how far we’ve come. We urge fans to purchase their tickets in advance to avoid standing in long queues,” he explained.

On Sunday, Stars will once again play Gunners at Hage Geingob Stadium, and Orlando Pirates will face another challenging test against Chula Chula at SKW Stadium. UNAM will square off against Young African at UNAM Stadium, and Life Fighters will wrap up the weekend with a match against FC Ongos at Mokati Stadium in Otjiwarongo. Football fans can look forward to an action-packed weekend of top-tier football in Namibia. mkambukwe@nepc.com.na
