Brave Gladiators intensify preparations

National women’s football team’s head coach Paulus Shipanga and his deputy Mervin Mbakera have intensified the Gladiators’ training in preparation for the crucial 2024 Paris Olympic Qualification matches against Morocco, scheduled for 26 and 31 October 2023.

During the past week, the focus in training sessions has been on refining their attacking strategy and honing their defensive tactics in tight spaces.

“We are emphasising our attacking approach, aiming to score as many goals as possible in the first match, considering the challenge of playing our home game in Morocco. The recent Cosafa tournament highlighted some of our weaknesses, and we have been diligently working on shoring up those areas. The players have responded positively to these sessions, and the entire technical team is pleased with their performance,” noted coach Shipanga.

Shipanga expressed his excitement about facing Morocco and the upcoming match days, despite the formidable opposition.

“Morocco is coming off a Fifa World Cup appearance, which will serve as a true test for our team and coaching staff. However, we are the Gladiators, and we will approach this contest with unwavering determination.”

He added: “Our team fully comprehends the significance of this assignment, and it is mentally prepared – even though they have been away from home and their families for over a month”.
