Geingob’s daily memorial services shifted from residence

Newly-appointed ICT minister Emma Theofelus announced yesterday that the memorial service of late president Hage Geingob will be on Saturday, 24 February and the burial on Sunday, 25 February, which will be declared a public holiday.

Theofelus said that according to the Public Holidays Act, Monday, 26 February will be a public holiday.

Daily memorial services will now take place at the Windhoek Showgrounds on 12 and 13 February, and at the Namcol Centre in Katutura from 14 February to 16 February 2024 from 18h00 to 20h00.

Theofelus also said the daily memorial services will no longer be conducted at the residence of late President Hage Geingob.

She said the venue of the final official memorial service will still be announced.

Speaking at the Government Information Centre Friday during the daily media briefing on the funeral of the late Geingob, who died last Sunday, Theofelus added that Geingob’s body will lie in state in Windhoek, and will not be taken to the regions.

However, there shall be official regional memorial services leading up to the official main memorial service.

“The services will be coordinated between the central government and governors’ offices,” the minister said. Logistical information will be communicated at a later stage.
