Home affairs deploys floor managers

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security has deployed customer service floor managers from its headquarters in Windhoek to the regions to provide training to staff members, as part of its efforts to improve service delivery.

According to the ministry’s spokesperson Margaret Kalo on Monday, the managers were deployed to train staff in the client service sections countrywide and have undergone training from the ministry’s public relations department.

She said the idea was introduced by the executive director Etienne Maritz earlier this month, who saw the need to assist clients with better customer service in all 14 regions.

Kalo said the initiative is headed by the public relations group which will assist the floor managers in engaging with customers.

She noted that the customer care floor managers have been receiving training since 18 September and will then train staff members on the provision of efficient service, communication skills, customer service, and barriers to effective communication.

The managers have so far visited offices in Otjiwarongo, Swakopmund, Rundu, Omuthiya and Oranjemund, where they provided training in order to ensure the ministry delivers excellent service to all clients seeking its various services.

Meanwhile, Kalo said: “Every morning we make sure we interact with customers to familiarise them with the ministry’s new building here in Windhoek, as well as in understanding the documents they require on the spot. This initiative will be a continuous exercise to ensure smooth operations throughout the year,” she said.

Through this initiative, the ministry aims to instil in customers’ minds that public institutions can provide efficient services.
