Letter - Putin’s arrest warrant legal or illegal?

Alvenus F Dreyer

The International Criminal Court has issued a warrant of arrest for Russian president Vladimir Putin, an action influenced by big-brother America and bigger-cousin Europe.

It is understood that Putin must be captured by August 2023 before the BRICS summit in South Africa or perhaps even during his visit for that particular summit, which is also slated for the same
 month.

The ICC is notoriously known for taking selective geo-political measures when dealing with war crimes and crimes against humanity matters.

Recent history, dating back to 2003, reminds the world how a United States (US) and United Kingdom-led coalition launched military attacks on Iraq, ostensibly to locate and destroy “weapons of mass destruction”, which were never found. Some of mother earth’s most powerful nations have been acting and behaving as if the world starts and ends with them.

It is either their way or the highway as evident in the trails of destruction they have left in some parts of the world. In countries where these super-powers took action for the apparent sake of democracy and the rule of law, these countries are now worse off economically, socially and even politically. Historical facts, which point to massive infrastructure destruction, the loss of human life, the plundering of mineral wealth, etc., are easily forgotten by these so-called superpowers.

The superpowers of this world, who have been crisscrossing Africa, must do the honourary thing and conduct self-retrospective, look themselves in the mirror and see things for what they are.

The more you try covering up your dirty tracks, the more they will appear; they are too many and all over the place.

No amount of dollar, pound or euro will keep your interest intact for as long as you do business the way it best suits your agenda and interest.

As for the arrest of Putin, let the Russian people decide what is next for their president; he was at least also democratically-elected
