Man caught with leopard, pangolin skins

NKURENKURU – A 51-year-old man was on Friday arrested at Nkurenkuru after he was found in illegal possession of controlled wildlife products that he was transporting in his vehicle.

According to the Kavango West police, the suspect was allegedly found in possession of two pangolin skins and one leopard skin, all valued at N$180 000 during a police search on Friday morning.

“The vehicle used for transportation was a white Nissan NP 300 with number plate N 177727 W. It was seized and booked in Pol 7. Police investigation continues,” said the police crime report.

The suspect is due for court.

In an unrelated matter, a case of sudden death was recorded by the Kavango West police after a teenager died on Friday afternoon.

Before his death, he was allegedly drinking alcohol the previous night at a local shebeen at Nkonke village with friends. The deceased allegedly woke up with a swollen face and nobody allegedly could tell what happened to him. The teenager died at Rundu State Hospital in Kavango East region.

The deceased has been identified as Nseu Primus (19)

“He was taken to the clinic where he was transferred to Nankudu and later to Rundu where he died. According to the medical doctor’s diagnosis, the deceased died due to a skull fracture. It is not known at the moment whether the deceased was assaulted or not,’’ said the police. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death and the next of kin have been informed of his death.
