National Symbol Campaign launched in Ohangwena

EENHANA – Information minister Peya Mushelenga has launched the National Symbol Campaign at Eenhana in the Ohangwena region on Monday.

The aim of this campaign is to educate about the importance of national symbols, their effect on national unity and the role that unity plays in unifying Namibians and driving the nation’s development through the national symbols.

This campaign will be taken to all 14 regions.

In his remarks, minister Mushelenga said the National Symbols Campaign serves to instil among citizens a sense of patriotism, a value that has long existed.

“Our national flag is an important trademark for our sovereignty as an established republic. Our national anthem articulates our history and attributes of our country and nation. Our national flag and national anthems make us a distinct group and raise our passions for the motherland. They are integral parts of our existence and persistence as a proud nation,” he stressed.

He added that it is, therefore, correct to state that the national flag, anthem, coat of arms and other symbols are not merely symbols; they are the embodiment of the country’s unity.

“When nationals are patriotic, they will be united towards a common goal and destiny. Unity means recognising that we are all stakeholders, working hand in hand to overcome challenges, seize opportunities and build a better future for ourselves and generations to come. When we stand united, we transcend our differences, shun negativism and embrace the power of collaboration. We become a solid force enclosed in cohesion and, therefore, destined for greater achievements,” Mushelenga further emphasised.

Ultimately, the National Symbols Campaign serves as a vehicle through which we will triumphantly transform ourselves into a greater Namibian nation.

“Let us seize this opportunity to activate the power of our national symbols and to ignite the flames of unity in Ohangwena region and spreading all over Namibia,” he urged.
