NNN: Culture not a source for division

Deputy Prime Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says different cultures must be a source of inspiration and strength to build a strong nation and not be used as a source of division.

“Cultures must be seen as a stream of water that collects everything along the way, thus ending up into a fertile land down the stream and that is what we should call Namibia, the fertile land,” she added.

Nandi-Ndaitwah noted that cultural connections also have a positive impact on the country's economy, as it provides revenue to communities, boost local business and create job opportunities.

She was speaking at the Totem Expo fundraising gala dinner held at Oshakati Town Council premises on Saturday.

Nandi-Ndaitwah called on individuals from all sectors to support the Totem Expo.

Oshakati mayor Leonard Hango said they have raised over N$400 000.

The aim is to raise funds to build a permanent place for the totem exposition that will serve the town at large.

“With our own exposition centre, we will be able to host various events in town. This will not only benefit the town council at large but it will also build and enhance the economy of the town,” said Hango.

The Totem Expo is expected to take place from 4 to 10 December at the Oshakati Independence Stadium.

“All small and big businesses are invited to secure exhibition stands during the expo event to showcase their business services and sell goods with the aim of reaching a greater audience,” said Hango.
