ONGWEDIVA – Ongwediva-based Faith Poultry project received a boost towards its dream of increasing its chicken stock, after receiving an egg incubator.

 The project on Friday received an egg incubator from the Ongwediva Town Council, worth N$18 000.

 The incubator, according to the project members, would grow its business and allow it to farm with more chickens.

 The project aims to farm with 1 000 chickens - an intended massive leap from its current 70 chickens.

 Tiopolina Halweendo, who spoke on behalf of the project said the incubator comes in handy as the project can now expand its capacity and production of eggs.

 Halweendo said there is demand for the chickens and eggs, but the progress at the project has been slow as they did not have an incubator to hatch their eggs.

 “We want to have enough chickens and eggs to sell and maybe also have our own chicken abattoir in the future,” said Halweendo.

  The incubator has a capacity to hatch 1 056 eggs and can hatch up to 176 eggs per week and can be used on solar, batteries or electricity.

 Halweendo thanked the council for responding to their request.

 The project is now also requesting land to enable it to farm adequately,  The project was initiated in 2019 to fight poverty and also contribute to the country’s economy.

 Handing over the donation, councillor Naemi Amuthenu said the donation is part of the council›s social responsibility which aims to improve the living standard of the Ongwediva residents.

 Amuthenu indicated that the council understands that this effort plays a great role in employment creation, promotion of economic development and advancement of food security.
