Oshana learners to get placement

OSHAKATI - The Oshana regional education directorate is busy placing Grade one, four, eight, and 11 learners who have not yet found placement at local schools.

The additional placement process started on Monday and ends Friday at the Oshakati Circuit.

The region’s education deputy director, Hilma Nuunyango, said parents seeking schools for their children should not worry, as there is enough space in the region.

“This is the last week of placements, by next week every child will be in school,’’ she assured.

She said the reason for the increase of learners without schools is due to parents moving from other regions to Oshana for various reasons, and most of them did not apply for placements between June and October last year.

Nuunyango said parents and learners would be informed this week as to which schools they have been placed.

“Opting for the school of choice is not viable, as learners will be placed where space is available,” the education deputy director cautioned.

Grievances

Maria Akwaako from Oshakati was among many desperate parents gathering at Oshakati Circuit offices, seeking placements for their children.

Akwaako, who was looking for a school for her daughter for grade one, said there has been no proper coordination between the schools and the resource centre since last year.

“Many parents went to the schools.  There they were told to come to the resource centre. Here they are telling us to go to the schools, what must we do now?” she asked.

She has been seeking placement since school started a week ago.

Also looking for space was Selma Shingenge, who seeks placement in grade eight for her child who was at school in the Khomas region and now must move to Oshakati due to her work transfer.

“My child did not get a school yet; others have started being taught already, it is now two weeks, running up and down with schools,” stressed Shingenge.
