Tragic end for Henties murder accused

WALVIS BAY — A man accused of murdering his girlfriend in Henties Bay on Family Day last year, has died in the Katutura State Hospital.

The 53-year-old Petrus Jambekeni Shikonda had been receiving medical attention in Windhoek after he attempted to commit suicide shortly after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend Justina Tulela Kaunapawa Imbili (32) to death.

Acting Namibian Police spokesperson, warrant officer Anna Frans, said on Friday that the man was in critical condition under police guard after his second suicide attempt with battery acid.

“His partner suffered multiple wounds on her body, chest, breast and stomach, leading to her immediate death. In a desperate bid to escape the consequences of his actions, he initially attempted to take his own life by setting his residence on fire. However, witnesses intervened, and pulled him from the burning building,” she stated.

“He was taken to a clinic for treatment but left the facility unnoticed, and upon returning home, consumed battery acid. He was then rushed to Swakopmund and later transferred to Windhoek, where he died on Thursday,” Frans said.

Meanwhile, the police in Erongo are looking for assistance to trace a woman to be charged for concealment of birth, alternatively murder.

This is after a community member scavenging for scrap metal found a decapitated foetus of about five months wrapped in plastic in a skip. The remains were found in Daureb Street in Tulinawa.

The police are now appealing to the public to provide information relating to this matter to detective warrant officer Cletius Kabuku at 0813910671, and/or detective inspector Selma Shangula at 0816676820.

Police investigations continue.
