Independence horseracing bash set for Aminuis

Independence horseracing bash set for Aminuis

Popular horseracing event, the Corridor 13 Independence Bash will take place on Saturday at the Corridor racetrack in the Omaheke Region’s Aminuis Constituency.

The event, in its eighth edition, is primarily aimed at celebrating Namibia’s independence.

Sae Mumbango, the competition organiser told Nampa the event is also a form of entertainment for the Aminuis residents alongside the Independence celebration.

“This is one of the biggest occasions in our constituency, and the spectators are always coming in big numbers,” said Mumbango.

He said horses had rested for a long time, and the competition will prepare local horses for upcoming events.

Top Aminuis-based racehorses are expected at the prestigious competition and will compete in various categories.

The horses will sprint in short distances of 1 000 metres and 2 000m, which are the main races for thoroughbred horses.

Mumbango added that local horses called boerperd and Nambred horses will also compete in the event.

“Each horse must be registered for N$250 while the thoroughbred entries are N$300 for participation in the competition,” he said, adding the registration is with horseracing guru Ja-Ja Otsile.

There will be trophies, medals and other special prizes like sheep and goats for the winning horses.

“We also have a special competition for the drill horses that will entertain the crowd during intervals,” Mumbango said. The first race is expected to start at 12h00, and there will be live DJ performances.

Racehorse Try Me of Tjekupe Uahongora won the boerperd category last year, while juvenile horse Prince of the Mumbango family emerged as the victor in the Nambred division.
