Industry Loop - Elephant in the room Vol. 2

If what happened to Gazza at the Love, Damini tour headlined by Burna Boy does not anger you as a patriotic Namibian, then honestly, we have lost it as a people. If what happened to Gazza at the Love,Damini tour headlined by Burna Boy does not infuriate you as a patriotic Namibian, then what hope does this country have?

Gazza – of all people! Gazza, who has won national and international awards! Gazza, who was one of the first modern-day entertainers to feature powerhouse artists on his albums! Gazza, who was one of the first entertainers in modern-day Namibia to fill stadiums across the country! Gazza, who recently pulled off five mega shows in one FREAKING day!

How on earth are we not outraged as a country? How are we not calling out Mindscape Events for their blatant disrespect for, dare I say, the biggest Namibian musician right now?! How on earth did Mindscape and all its partnering organisers and stage managers allow a situation in which Gazza’s set had to be reduced to five minutes?!

I am embarrassed, to say the least. If you did not cringe while watching clips of Gazza begging for one more minute to finish his reduced set, then the last bit of enthusiasm I had for the Namibian identity is lost.

I don’t care what the backstory was or what the facts are, but our biggest artist cannot be embarrassed like that. I don’t care what the backstory is or what the facts are, but what happened to Gazza is seriously f**ked up! I do not wish that on any artist, much less the biggest one that clearly is the point of reference with music in this country.

Namibia, we ought to be ashamed of ourselves for not standing up for Gazza and defending his honour. Say whatever you want about the man, but Gazza deserves respect. Say whatever you want about the man, but Gazza has proven to be a flagbearer for this country.

From the get-go of watching his documentary, Gazza had no escort; Gazza had no protection. It almost looks like Gazza did not have a designated booth. Gazza was made ordinary, and for a man who has done so much, not only for the entertainment industry but for the sheer identity of this country, that man deserved better.

Mindscape, you guys are wrong about this. I can only hope that the Mindscape team admits to their error and apologises not only to Gazza, but to the rest of the country. The days of our entertainers being treated like third-tier trash are so redundant. Honestly, do better. Sies man!

Until the next Loop, we say #GMTM
