Since my last edition of Industry Loop, before Arrafath’s passing…I was on a serious mission to rekindle my love for the Namibian music journey, simply because it has been a minute since I spoke about and actually listened to Namibian music. 

There are factors that killed my love and enthusiasm for Namibian music. Factors that I will bring to the fore at a later stage.

Like I said in the beginning, I haven’t listened to Namibian music in a while. So, some of the songs that I will highlight might be super old. Some songs may be current…some not. Either way, the next bunch of songs are currently helping me re-establish my excitement around Namibian music.

I have a serious love for new school RnB. I know I am not the only one. There’s always a big question around RnB in Namibia. When the subject RnB pops up, people still talk about the late Roger and Bertholdt. Listen, RnB has new players now; it’s time that you wake up and smell the f*cking Vodka!

Stop being stuck in the past. Let me plug you with IanLovely (formerly Jaleel). IanLovely dropped ‘After hours’, a song that features the 2017 female artist of the year from Walvis Bay – Monique English – and Zoey Davids. This song is R&B at its best! If you love good music, you need to check out this song.

I think it’s clear as daylight that I have a soft spot for Karishma. I spoke about her song ‘Oh yeah’ last time. She is the only artist to reappear on my list. She’s back on my list with a song titled ‘Biekie Biekie’. That beat switch-up? Her bars? The attitude? am I the only one that sees and hears when Karishma comes on?

Brace yourself with a name that I know for a fact you haven’t heard before…Max Junior. The homie Ogust Smiles plugged me with Max Junior. At the time, I did not make anything of Max Junior until he dropped ‘Kukumba’ – Hot, saucy and everything Peri Peri!

Staying with that Afro vibe, the much-talked-about DJ Vuyo finally got my attention. He did it with the song ‘Go low’ ft. King Zilla. I always wondered what the fuss was all about. ‘Go low’ is worth the fuss and the hype. The song has that international sound that has the serious potential to appeal to an international audience.

Closing off today’s list of songs that are re-establishing my excitement for Namibian music again has to be Shanna’s ‘It’s Okay’. The song features Yumbs. Add Kahli’s ‘End of Time’ then you have the perfect back-to-back piano plays. Both songs are exactly what I love – not noise. Both songs are sexy AF complemented by amazing production. The type of songs you playlist when on a long road or when you’re simply washing your car during a Sunday session. 

So much music, so little space to reveal all of them. 

Will I abuse you with more music next time? I might just! My love for Namibian music is back and I’m going to annoy you with it all the way!
