After a long break due to commitments by the Namibia Football Association, the FNB Women’s Super League is scheduled to conclude on Saturday.
Log leaders Ongos Ladies FC are on the brink of being crowned champions, with one match remaining against V-Power Angels at 15h00 at the NFA Technical Centre in Windhoek.
Ongos FC has had an impressive season, with 20 wins and one draw out of 21 matches, amassing 61 points. This tally is likely to increase with the upcoming match.
Head coach Shama Gure expressed the team’s excitement and readiness for the final game. “The team has worked hard all season, and this final game is our chance to showcase the effort we’ve put in to secure the title. Everyone is focused and determined to give their best performance this weekend. We’re ready to leave everything on the field and make our fans, families, and staff proud. We cannot wait to see everyone this weekend,” said Gure.
Following Ongos in second place is Beauties FC, with 13 wins, three draws, and 42 points from 21 matches. Beauties will face Khomas Nampol Ladies at 13h00 at the Unam Stadium in Windhoek.
Beauties head coach Salome Iyambo remarked on the competitive nature of the league finale, noting the three teams vying for second place. “We’re a bit safe on goal difference, but we must collect three points to secure the spot.
Our opponents defeated us for the first time in history in the PSTBet NFA Cup, where it mattered most, and we will fight for success, knowing all the other teams will be doing the same.
“For us, losing out on the title means nothing notable was achieved, and we shall work on strengthening the team to regroup for next season’s objectives in both competitions,” said Iyambo.
Khomas Nampol Ladies coach Novata Paulus emphasised their preparation for the last match of the season. “We are not going to relax because we are fighting for second place with Beauties. Fighting for second position is a big achievement for the team. We beat Beauties in the cup, but that’s a different competition. I told my players to work hard and do their best. This will be like a derby for us,” she said.
Paulus also highlighted the challenges the team faces beyond their control, but with motivation and positive support from individuals and fans, they keep fighting. Khomas Nampol currently holds third place with 42 points from 21 matches, including 12 wins and six draws.
In other matches on Saturday, Nust Babes will play Arrows Ladies at 09h00, at the NFA Technical Centre.
Okahandja FC will face Namib Daughters at 11h00 at the same venue, while Girls and Goals will play the Clever Girls of Unam at 13h00 thereafter. Ramblers Women will face Ongwediva Queens at 14h00 at the Ramblers Stadium.
