Namibian DJs honestly put up with a lot. Namibian DJs have to put up with an ignorant bunch from all walks of life. Namibian DJs have to put up with an ignorant reveller. Namibian DJs have to put up with crooked event organisers/promoters. Namibian DJs have to put up with inexperienced and ignorant MCs. Mbuae…bless our DJs.

Let’s contextualise a few of these factors: Ignorant revellers – my favourite. Namibians have got to be one of the most ignorant bunch on planet Earth, naturally speaking a problem for a Namibian DJ or a DJ operating in the Namibian space. An ignorant reveller means that they, firstly, do not know or care who you are as a DJ. You could be an upcoming DJ or an established award-winning DJ…it’s all the same thing, which exposes this DJs to abuse. Abuse stems from ignorance.

An ignorant reveller would have the pure authentic guts to walk up to AsserDeep and ask him to play Hip Hop. An ignorant reveller would have the pure authentic guts to walk up to Konundrum and ask him to play Oviritje. An ignorant reveller would have the pure authentic guts to walk to KBozz and ask him to play house music. Yeah, it happens. So yes, an ignorant reveller is the worse!

Continuing with the contextualisation mission. Namibian DJs have to put up with crooked event organisers/promoters. Crooked event organisers/promoters are the scum of the earth. DJs tend to be soft targets for these MFs! Imagine playing for hours and being told that the club did not make enough, thus they can’t get paid. Or getting your set cut short along with the money initially promised to you. It’s a jungle out here for Namibian DJs that have to deal with crooked event organisers/promoters.

Inexperienced MCs or ignorant MCs are probably the one thing that Namibian DJs hate. Why are these problems for Namibian DJs? Because these MFs would interrupt every song you would play/mix. An inexperienced MC or ignorant MC can make a DJ look dumb AF! An inexperienced MC or ignorant MC can kill a whole vibe. An inexperienced MC or ignorant MC can cost you your set with endless interruptions/announcements or just pointless screams while playing.

It’s terrible. Bless our DJs. Y’all deal with a lot!

Until the next Loop, we say #GMTM
