I really want to say that this will be the final volume in which I abuse you with my rekindled love for Namibian music, but we ‘tog’ all know what new love does to a person; You’re simply smitten and want to share it with the whole wide world. This is me, in love with Namibian music again and wanting to share it with the whole wide
world. So, buckle up!
The songs that I recommended so far with Volume 1 and Volume 2 are Mabuzza’s ‘Top Notch’, Exit’s ‘Denzel Washington’, Mega’s ‘Backspin’ remix ft. Gazza, Karishma’s ‘Oh Yeah’ & ‘Biekie Biekie’, GhettoBallerina’s ‘Storie Lorie’ ft. Now I fell down a rabbit hole when ‘Collective Singers’ popped up as one of my recommendations on my playlists recently – rabbit hole because I ended up listening to every single Collective Singers’ song. It’s no secret that I am a choral freak and a fan of Namibian Gospel. Unfortunately, because I ended up listening to every single Collective Singer’s song, I would recommend every single Collective Singers’ song.
Add Dee’A’s ‘Ombili’ then you have the perfect combination of choral and gospel in one go. I have to say, Dee’A’s ‘Ombili’ took me back to the old D-Naff and Levite days. That good Gospel Kwaito sound…priceless. Dee’A’s ‘Ombili’ may be a year old but like I said, my journey of rediscovering my love for Namibian music is not time-bound.
Moving away from Gospel…Keynote’s ‘No lie’ and Waters’ ‘Kwelizayo’ communicate with my soul in ways that I could never explain to you in one go. Keynote finding his own lane and sound without Maszanga was probably the best scenario one would have hoped for. The song is everything!
On the other hand, I can officially say that Waters has found his sound and I f*cking love it! ‘Kwelizayo’ is a song that features South African songstress Mashudu. It’s a combination one did not know we needed. I’ve always said that Otjiherero is the sexiest language on this planet and to see commercial songs being done in 2023, melts me to the core.
So much music, so little space to reveal all of them.
Will I abuse you with more music next time? Again, I might just! I’m in love! My love for Namibian music is back and I’m going to annoy you with it all the way!
