At the beginning of this year, I started a movement in which I would share my playlist of Namibian songs.
I did this the whole year.
Music is an extremely deep sport for me.
So, to have to do this every single month was exceptionally challenging.
It is officially December. I will round off my month’s favs in this edition.
If you, for some reason, only got wind of this with today’s edition, allow me to contextualise NSK’s monthly favs for you.
When I say personal, I mean music I consume in my private circles.
With every edition, there was a need for a disclaimer, and today would be no different.
The list that I share monthly is not a New Era list.
It is not sanctioned by New Era, or endorsed by the publication in any way.
This list is not a Fresh FM list either.
I do not own Fresh FM. Fresh FM has its management, rules and processes.
This has nothing to do with playing it on the radio, or getting your song on the radio.
This list is in no way related to any other business I am involved with.
I am a music-loving Namibian.
I staunchly believe I should be allowed to have an opinion. With this edition, I will put a spotlight on the songs that stayed on the playlist throughout the year, which are featured on NSK’s monthly playlists.
I just cannot get enough of T-Bozz and Staika’s ‘Chip’. This may very well be my Namibian December song. It activates the Tubusis in me.
Speaking of December songs, Azmo Nawe and Musketeers’ ‘High Way’ and ‘Genesis’ by Tumi Mohammed want me to appreciate what 2024 has been for me.
If we say appreciate, we cannot finish an NSK playlist without mentioning Manda Gabriel, Pride and Collective Singers.
Their music kept me going during the darkest of times this year.
My favourites from their collection are Great Things, Keulu and Hosinia, respectively.
This list will never be complete without Hip Hop and Kwaito.
The two songs that stayed on my playlist throughout the year are Methano by Chris Wayne (Kwaito), and KP Illest and Skrypt with ‘Goats’.
Bonus songs that deserve a mention, and which carried me this year are Adora’s ‘Talk to Me’ and Ms Gideon’s ‘Dream’.
To the artists whom I mentioned, thank you for the music.
Thank you for making my 2024 a bit better.
Take a moment or two to listen to these songs.

Until the next Loop, we say #GMTM
