Industry Loop – Unsolicited and free advice

Industry Loop – Unsolicited and free advice

Every year, I embark on a series to keep things interesting in this column.

Recent examples are ‘OTU’ and ‘NSK’s monthly favs’, etc. ‘OTU’ was a series that focused on emerging talent. ‘NSK’s monthly fav’s was the sharing of my personal Namibian music playlist that I would feature in my private and personal spaces.

Boys and girls, young and old… non-conformant, I would like to introduce my newest series: ‘unsolicited and free advice’. Welcome to the first edition.

Unsolicited and free advice will come to you once a month for the rest of the year, in which I offer unsolicited and free advice to creative practitioners on various issues. In my time as a creative practitioner in this country, I’ve noticed that a lot of Namibian creatives are limited to being “YES” people in their circle.

People who gas them up. People who ride and swallow their d**ks. People who do not necessarily have their interests at heart. People who will never have the balls to tell them the truth. People who only care about the vibes.

I may not be the wisest man alive, but even the maker of our flesh knows that having only “yes” people in your camp will result in reduced quality of work. This is not even about the creative industry; this is a very simple and basic life lesson. If you are serious about making it in life…you need a “NO” person in your camp. You need someone who will have zero fear of telling you the complete and brutal truth.

In the history of human psychology, there has never been a perfect human being. In the absence of self-perfection, one needs others to achieve the closest result to perfection. In my time as a columnist and a general creative practitioner, I’ve noticed that a number of creative practitioners do not have “NO” people in their corner, which results in a drop in quality or a total extinction of value.

This series… “unsolicited and free advice” is an indication of genuine concern and love for whoever I will address.

This series should not be looked at as “hating”. If anyone in your circle tells you “NSK IS HATING” as a result of whatever I mentioned…just know that that person is the problem. That person does not want a change in the status quo. They are completely OK with you either sounding like a fool or not reaching your full potential.

For a lack of space…I will tell you this: the first batch of creative practitioners that will be the focus are Azaria, Latoya Stella, Kandaha, C-Jay, NH-Dwayne and Prime Rose.

There’s a lot to share. I will share my unsolicited and free advice next week on these creatives. For now, though…check out the latest episode of Industry Loop on the New Era Newspaper YouTube platform.

Until the next Loop, we say #GMTM
