WINDHOEK – Paulus “The Rock” Ambunda, suffered a setback on Friday when he sustained a hamstring injury during a training session in preparation for his upcoming World title fight.
Ambunda was due to step into the ring on 13 September to stage a challenge for the Super Bantamweight world title against champion Scott Quigg at the Phone4U arena in Manchester, United Kingdom (UK).
“We were 28 days away from another world title and this injury is surely a major blow, unfortunately we don’t have control over these things,” said Nestor Tobias, Trainer and Promoter of the MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing & Fitness Academy.
“We have informed the Quiggs camp in the UK and know they will be very disappointed because this is a fight that the world has been waiting to watch. However, we requested that they consider postponing the bout … and are waiting to hear from them.”
Ambunda says he is obviously very disappointed since he was looking forward to the fight in an effort to claim his second world title but admitted that God works in mysterious ways and while he is disappointed he is not down and will get back to training and continue to work hard once he has fully recovered.
The fight was slated to take place at the Phone4U Arena in Manchester, UK, on 13 September 2014 in front of an expected 20 000 spectators with over millions of TV viewers.
