Namibian Paralympic athlete Lahja Ishitile, along with her guide Sydney Kamuaruuma, set a new African record in the 200metre (m) T11 with a remarkable time of 24.82 seconds at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games yesterday.
Their exceptional performance secured them a spot in the final, which is scheduled for Saturday at 19h23.
In another notable performance, Namibia’s Johannes Nambala came close to clinching a podium finish in the men’s 400m T13 final, where he placed fourth with a time of 48.89 seconds. The gold medal in this event went to Algeria’s Skander Djamil Athmani, who completed the race in 47.43 seconds. Japan’s Ryota Fukunaga claimed silver with a time of 48.07 seconds, while Colombia’s Buinder Bermúdez took bronze with a time of 48.83 seconds.
Last night, Ananias Shikongo and his guide Even Tjiuiju were set to compete in the 100m T11 final after delivering a season’s best of 11.18 seconds in the semi-finals.
