ONGWEDIVA – The Vice Chancellor of the International University of Management (IUM), Virginia Namwandi, says the institution expects students to abide by its rules and regulations and to fulfil their academic duties and responsibilities, as required of students, without exception.
Namwandi was speaking at the official opening ceremony held at IUM Ongwediva Campus on Wednesday.
She said for learners to be creditable members of the IUM family, they should embrace hard work with self-discipline, integrity and commitment to academic excellence.
“Each one of you will have to adhere to diligence in the pursuit of new knowledge and skills as well as innovative obligations to seek self-empowerment through self-study, as the solid foundation on which each one of you, as an individual, will be required to build and shape your own future and destiny,” stated Namwandi.
She said the broader IUM family would be there to help students along the way, and all the way up to the completion of their studies.
Namwandi urged learners to continue to make the best use of their study time at IUM through sustained hard work in order to complete their studies with honour and with distinction. “Set realistic academic goals for yourself, be focussed on your goals and systemically work to achieve the desired results. Be active, don’t be passive passengers on your academic journey because that will be a recipe for failure,” she exhorted students.
Namwandi said in order for students to succeed, they have to be self-motivated, dynamic and be active participants in their studies.
She added that the education and training that students receive at IUM should equip them with knowledge, skills and ability to be independent thinkers and to be innovative producers of knowledge. And to achieve that students have to be resourceful, “don’t just depend on lecturers but use different sources to acquire knowledge”, the IUM Vice Chancellor added.
IUM has developed a comprehensive quality assurance and quality management policy and programmes that will be implemented through the establishment of a Directorate of Quality Assurance and Quality Management, Namwandi said, adding that these are positive developments based on IUM’s commitment to continuous holistic improvement of quality, in addition to compliance with the legal requirements of the National Council of Higher Education and the Namibian Qualifications Authority.
