Jacobs: Players are in good spirit …as Gladiators take on Eswatini

Jacobs: Players are in good spirit …as Gladiators take on Eswatini

Brave Gladiators’ gaffer Woody Jacobs has assured fans that despite missing key players, he remains confident that his team will deliver in the crucial tie against Eswatini this afternoon.

The teams will do battle at the Somhlolo National Stadium at 13h00 in the first leg of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations’ (WAFCON) qualifier.

The return leg is scheduled for 26 February at the Dobsonville Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Speaking in an interview yesterday from Mbabane, Jacobs said the team arrived in Eswatini on Tuesday, and conducted their first training session on Wednesday under wet conditions.

“The team is in good spirits, and we are looking forward to the match. We had a training session on Wednesday, and I saw a lot of energy and creativity from the players, which was overwhelming to see… We will have our final training session at the same venue where we will be playing to familiarise ourselves with the pitch. The facilities here are good, and the conditions are excellent,” he added.

However, the Gladiators will be without key players such as Zenatha Coleman, who is unavailable due to pressing family matters. Germany-based Vewe Kotjipati and Twelikondjela Amukoto are also absent from the squad.

Despite these absences, Jacobs remains optimistic.

“I am confident that the players in camp will step up. They understand what is expected of them in this encounter. The spirits are high, and I trust they will rise to the occasion against a strong Eswatini side,” he enthused.
