WINDHOEK– Franco na Biso (Franco and Us) a Jazz concert features on Tuesday, March 11 at the Warehouse Theatre in tribute to Congolese musician, Franco Luamba.
Franco na Biso is a musical project created between Paris and Kinshasa, uniting French and Congolese rhythms. Three Jazz musicians get together to pay tribute to Franco Luambo, King of Rhumba. Luambo was known for his mastery of Rhumba and is one of the originators of the modern Congolese sound. He reinvented the Soukous, giving birth to the Ndombolo genre. He was also nicknamed the “Sorcerer of the Guitar” for his seemingly effortless fluid playing.
The project has been created between French jazz musicians, Jean-Rémy Guédon (saxophone), Nicolas Folmer (trumpet) and Congolese guitarist, Kojack Kossakamvwe. The concert will be reflecting the musical backgrounds of Folmer and Guédon, who belong to a generation of golden French jazzmen. Kojack, a well-known guitar player in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is keeping Franco Luambo’s heritage alive and Franco na Biso will show how classic jazz and African music can blend to inspire a new generation of musicians.
The project, Franco na Biso, starts its tour of 23 African countries on Tuesday in Windhoek. Tickets are available at the Warehouse Theatre for N$ 70 in advance and N$ 90 at the door.
