Junior tennis tournament a huge success

Namibia Tennis Association (NTA) successfully hosted an electrifying junior tennis tournament over the weekend at various venues across the capital, with organisers hailing the event as a resounding success.

Speaking to New Era Sport after the matches, NTA junior tennis committee tournament coordinator Larushka Kruger, expressed delight at the high level of competition and the determination displayed by the young players, emphasising that the future of Namibian tennis looks promising.

The tournament featured a total of 165 matches played over two days at the Central Tennis Courts (CTC), DTS, SKW, and Police Tennis Courts. Five age categories were contested: U/10, U/12, U/14, U/16, and U/25 for both boys and girls, delivering plenty of exciting action and showcasing remarkable talent.

In the U/10 category, Immaculate Fundisi claimed victory in the girls’ division, while Pwoove Paulus emerged as the boys’ champion.

Albertina Johannes dominated the U/12 girls’ category, with Pameni Paulus winning the boys’ division.

In the U/14 category, Daniel Pienaar took top honours in the boys’ division, while Secilia Nghitewapo won the girls’ title. The U/16 division saw Natalie Ouses triumph in the girls’ competition, while Nicolai Pienaar secured victory in the boys’ category after a gruelling final.

The U/25 category also produced competitive matches, with Joanivia Bezuidenhout clinching the women’s title and Johan Theron claiming the men’s crown.

Kruger described the weekend tournament as one of the toughest in recent times, noting the emergence of new talent.

“The tournament was a huge success, with 72 entries across all age groups.

We had several new players participating for the first time, and some of them performed exceptionally well.

Albertina Johannes, for example, won her first tournament in the U/12 category.

The competition was intense, and our players had to give it their all to secure a podium finish,” she said.
