Lazarus Kaimbi signed a season-long contract with Debmarine Namibia Premier Football League outfit African Stars in the capital on Tuesday.

In an interview with New Era Sport, the 36-year-old forward said he signed for Stars because of their ambition, and the potential of the players at the club.

“The team is aiming high, the winning spirit is there, and they want to compete in the African Champions League, which is the biggest competition on the continent,” he noted. On his fitness level, the striker said he is working hard as he is currently training twice a day with the team
better known as ‘Okaserandu’.

“I am not 100%, but we are playing friendlies to up our fitness level,” he added.

When asked about retirement plans, the forward said his contract has an option for a one-year extension, and that he will play for as long as his legs can carry
him.

“It has not come to my mind yet. I can still play,” he observed.

African Stars’ head coach Mervin Mbakera said Kaimbi, who can also play as a winger, will make a valuable contribution to the team.

He added that the club is eyeing Champions League football, and experienced players like Kaimbi will help them achieve qualification.

“He has got experience; he knows the culture of our league. He is a humble person who can motivate young players to do better,” Mbakera said.

Kaimbi played for Ramblers in the Namibia Premier League, Jomo Cosmos in South Africa’s elite league, an in countries like Thailand, Portugal and Malaysia.

He also played for the Brave Warriors between 2006 and 2015, amassing 38 caps.

Before signing for Stars, Kaimbi had a short stint at Blue Waters, where he played five matches in the first round of the Namibia Premier Football League.
