Kamberipa aims for more goals 

Orapa United defender Ivan Kamberipa, who netted his first international goal on Monday, aspires to add more to his tally. 

The 30-year-old, playing in Botswana’s Premier League, was instrumental in Namibia’s 2-1 victory over Lesotho in the Cosafa Cup Group C tie played at Isaac Wolfson stadium. He found the back of the net in the 38th minute. 

Thri l l ed about his maiden international goal, the former African Stars player, emphasised the significance of the moment for both him and the nation. 

“Scoring my first goal for the national team is a huge accomplishment, not just for me but for the entire nation,” he said. 

“De fend i ng isn’t my sol e responsibility; defenders can score too. Today, I seized the opportunity, and I hope to contribute more goals throughout the tournament,” he added. 

Looking ahead, Kamberipa expressed optimism about the team’s chances of advancing. “We have one crucial group stage match remaining, and it will likely be our toughest as our opponents will be equally determined for points. However, I have faith in this team’s abilities, and I’m confident we can secure a win and progress to the knockout stage,” he added. 

Kamberipa, one of the team’s senior players, also commented on the team’s overall performance at this year’s tournament, saying he is happy so far with how the team have done. “We started slow, but after today’s game, the momentum has visibly shifted within the team and the camp. We are hopeful of going all the way in this tournament,” he said.
