Kamtonyo reflects on his solo journey and PDK reunion

Kamtonyo reflects on his solo journey and PDK reunion

AFTER years of building a successful career as part of the iconic group PDK, one of the members, Kamtonyo Andreas (the K in PDK) is set to release his debut solo album, ‘Ngawo-Ngawo’. The album, which features 20 tracks, showcases his growth as an artist and his evolution from being a group member to a standalone force in the music industry. “I’m really proud of ‘Ngawo-Ngawo’. It’s a reflection of my journey, the challenges I have faced, and the deeper connection I’ve developed with my fans. Every track is a piece of me, showcasing the growth I have made both musically and personally,” said Kamtonyo.

He added that the album features a host of local artists.

Embarking on a solo career was a significant step for the artist, who had long been part of the successful group PDK.

“Working solo was both rewarding and challenging. The hardest part was establishing my identity outside of PDK. I had to prove myself not just as a member of a group but as an individual artist capable of carrying my own weight,” he said.

Despite the challenges, he persevered, gaining confidence and honing his

skills. ‘Ngawo-Ngawo’ marks the culmination of his solo journey, a full-length album that captures his experiences and evolution in the music industry. “This is my first full album as a solo artist. Before this, I had released some singles and smaller projects, but this one is special. It’s everything I’ve learned so far, wrapped up in one project,” he said.

While the solo album marks a new chapter in his career, there’s even bigger news on the horizon. Rumours of a PDK reunion have been swirling, and the artist confirmed that the group will be coming back together.

“PDK is family, and that’s something that will never change. We’ve been apart for a while, but it’s definitely happening. We’ve all grown, and now we’re ready to bring something new to the table,” he said.

The reunion of PDK is set to be an exciting moment for the band and its fans alike.

“This reunion is going to be a celebration of growth and unity. Fans can expect music that’s energetic, heartfelt, and deeply connected to our Afro-pop roots. But there will also be new twists that reflect how far we’ve come and how much we’ve evolved,” he said. Patrick Mwashindange, (the P in PDK) also released his second solo album last month.

“The album consists of 14 tracks and it is called ‘Smile’ all I was trying to do was to make sure I put a smile on people who are going through a lot through my album,” he said.

He also confirmed that they will be reuniting. However, for him, it was not a separation.

“We were never separated; it was just that our schedules didn’t align with our studio times, due to what was happening in our lives, our relationships, and our work. But we still perform together.”
