Kanalelo optimistic about weekend matches

African Stars head coach Ronnie Kanalelo is optimistic about his team’s chances of securing six points as the Debmarine Premier League resumes this weekend.

A total of 16 matches are expected to take place across the country.

Their goal is to defend the title, “and I believe we can win both matches”. Kanalelo said training sessions have been productive.

He added that this season will not be a straightforward endeavour as they pursue the title.

“We have been playing well, making it challenging for opponents to break through. We are not an easy team to defeat,” he enthused. He noted that the squad is fully fit and ready to tackle upcoming challenges. The spotlight on Saturday will be on early title contender, Khomas Nampol. They will face the rejuvenated Young African at the Persianer Stadium in Mariental.

The team from the cattle town has made a strong start.

It is one of only two teams – along with the Mighty Gunners – yet to suffer a loss since the league commenced two months ago.

Team chairperson Maleagi Ngarizemo expressed confidence in their preparation.

He emphasised the importance of each game and the need to secure points.

Ngarizemo told Nampa yesterday that “every game is crucial for us as we strive to perform well beyond our expectations. With 14 points accumulated and eight to nine games left before the first round concludes, we are destined to do well this season,” he stated.

He revealed that the team has spent the past two weeks in a training camp.

It aims to secure at least four to six points this weekend.

Ngarizemo said the team’s approach remains unchanged.

He commended the coaching staff and players for their strong start.

Young African currently hold second place with 14 points, just below Khomas Nampol, who have 16 points.

Elsewhere in Okahandja, defending champions African Stars will square off against Young Brazilians on Saturday and Khomas Nampol on Sunday.

Stars aim to continue their winning streak after recent victories over coastal teams Blue Waters and Blue Boys.

Other matches scheduled for Saturday include Bucks Buccaneers facing Julinho Sporting, Unam going up against Cuca Tops, Ongos versus Blue Boys, Tigers clashing with Blue Waters, Okahandja United playing Eeshoke Chula Chula and Mighty Gunners taking on struggling KK Palace.

On Sunday, Unam will play Julinho Sporting, Bucks Buccaneers will meet Cuca Tops, Tigers will face Blue Boys, Ongos will compete against Blue Waters, Mighty Gunners will go up against Eeshoke Chula Chula, and KK Palace will seek redemption against Okahandja United. –Nampa
