RUNDU – Former deputy minister of home affairs, immigration, safety and security, Daniel Kashikola, has been hospitalised at Rundu after surviving a horrific car crash on the western outskirts of Rundu, he was allegedly traveling to Nkurenkuru.
The accident left Kashikola with serious injuries as he sustained a fractured left leg and internal bleeding but is reported to be in a stable condition. The accident occurred on Saturday at approximately 11h00 at Satotwa informal settlement opposite the Rundu dumping site along the Rundu-Nkurenkuru B10 highway, in Rundu district, Kavango East region.
“It was alleged that the driver of a Ford Ranger double cab was travelling towards Rundu, and upon reaching Satotwa, he allegedly intended to overtake another vehicle – a Toyota seven seater – which was ahead of him and in that process of overtaking, he collided head on with a Toyota pickup,’’ the report said.
“The silver pickup belongs to the former deputy minister who was travelling towards the direction of Nkurenkuru. He was with his 21-year-old son, who escaped with minor injuries. Occupants of the opposite vehicle also escaped with minor injuries, but both vehicles had serious damage,’’ the report further stated.
All victims were transported by an ambulance to Rundu State hospital where they are currently receiving medical attention. No arrest has been made on the matter, as police investigation continues.
