KATIMA MULILO – The Katima Mulilo Town Council held the election of office bearers for Katima Mulilo town council last week Thursday.

The event saw the office bearers retain all positions, with Swapo’s Lister Shamalaza re-elected as the mayor of Katima Mulilo and Christina Simanga as his deputy.

John Ntemwa (Swapo) was re-elected as the chairperson of the management committee, with Laskan Sikosi (PDM), and Beritha Sitali (Swapo) as members of the smanagement committee, while Watson Kalaluka (NDP) was re-elected as an additional member.

Charles Musialike from IPC was sworn in as an ordinary member.

During his acceptance speech, the re-elected mayor thanked the councillors for their unwavering support by endorsing him to serve as mayor for another term.

“Your confidence in me has placed on my shoulders a necessary burden to work diligently and tirelessly to change the lives of our people for the better,” he stated.

The mayor concluded by stating the time to deliver is now and not tomorrow, and to do things differently.

“The objective is to care, serve and make our people feel that they belong to this council,” said the mayor.

Zambezi governor Lawrence Sampofu reminded the councillors they were elected by the people, and should, therefore, be considerate to the needs of the people, which include the need for housing, roads, electricity and improved sanitation.

“If we do not satisfy their needs, there will always be demonstrations – and such activities will also affect the town council activities. Let’s work hard, let’s work together, let’s work in unity to deliver services,” stressed the governor.
