Katima Mulilo
Mayor of Katima Mulilo Georgina Mwiya welcomed FNB Global United’s local and international football legends to her town in the FNB Katima Mulilo branch on Friday.
In her opening address Mwiya applauded the group for the good gesture they demonstrated in assisting the town’s inhabitants to clean up the town in an effort to work towards conserving the environment, adding she is well aware of a number of footballers that have traveled all the way from Germany.
“I’m proud to inform you that this region is well versed with German tradition, as it was formerly known as Caprivi Region, named after a German Captain Kurt von Caprivi. Similarly, we again had a village, called Schuckmansberg, which was the first headquarters of the Germans in Namibia.”
Mwiya took time off her busy schedule to watch bank staff members team up with the town’s residents for an exhibition match against the legends inside the inflatable soccer pitch.
FNB Namibia is the main sponsor of the FNB Namibia Global United Climate Kick 2016. The bank’s strategy is based on the “4 P’s”, of which one is the planet, including the protection of the environment.
Katima Legends too light for FNB Global United
Meanwhile, the FNB Global United International legends football team defeated the Katima Legends 7-nil in front of enthusiastic spectators at the packed to rafters Katima stadium, yesterday
The opening goal arrived within the first 5 minutes courtesy of a simple tap in by Fredi Bobic after he met a cross from Lothar Sippel. Five minutes later, the visitors scored their second goal via a headed goal by Bobic.
Former Brave Warriors and Humburg FC versatile midfielder Collin “Collymore’ Benjamin combined nicely with Fredi Bobic for the third goal leaving the jubilant crowd shouting for more.
Bobis crowned a near faultless afternoon with 5 goals with Michel Dinzey also registering his name on the score sheet with a well-taken brace.
Founder of Global United Lutz Pfannenstiel, applauded the Katima Legends for a great and clean game and wished them well in future endeavors.
“The game was great and we enjoyed it tremendously, but for us, its not about winning or losing. It is all about the environment. We sincerely hope we have made an impact on Katima and its people. I would like to urge everyone to clean up, recycle and reuse where possible and also use our resources wisely.
The much traveled hippy look alike shot stopper, said he has noticed Katima is blessed with sufficient water resources, unlike the central areas.
“Of course we know the supply of electricity remains a challenge for the entire country and this is one resource we definitely need to use wisely. We are looking forward to visit Katima someday again – possibly as tourists – and hopefully witness a change in this beautiful town.”
